“I have my eyes on the programme since my childhood and never had the least expectation of standing on the same platform someday!” The entire experience has been... Aneek: Simply fabulous and thrilling. I have been in Mumbai for the last three months and have learnt so many things other than just the nuances of singing. It's a great experience to be living with so many people, getting to know what playback singing is all about. Nirupama: Great. Hailing from Agartala, I've come a long way. I have my eyes on the programme since my childhood and never had the least expectation of standing on the same platform someday!
Joy: Tough but very pleasant. Competing on an international level is an excitement by itself. It's truly an honour for me to be able to share stage with such stalwarts. I want to become a music director eventually and it's been quite an experience so far. Being a Bengali and representing the East... A: Is a massive responsibility by itself. Not just people from my city, but Bengalis from all over have shown immense trust in me.
N: Is a wonderful feeling. Bengalis have been excelling in all fields, especially in the performing arts and I do not want to let all those down who have pinned their trust on me. J: Is a big responsibility and I have definitely taken it very seriously. First it was Debojitda and now all the people from Assam are extending their support. Reality shows these days... A: Are definitely an advantage for amateurs like me. I am sure those who are really talented will make a mark for themselves. N: Have gained momentum and are becoming the 'next best things' to look out for. People from distant places like me are getting noticed. J: Give an edge to all those who want to make a mark for themselves. We respect and look up to our seniors but the industry has to move on and we are the future. Irrespective of being able to win a competition or not, the struggle remains. The mentors' reactions... A: Vary from minute to minute. It's but natural that the participants get a little unnerved by what the mentors say but they also mean our well-being. The mentors act as ground reality. N: Are very true. They aren't gimmicks at all. I respect the judges for being very critical but I think they could be a little mellowed in their reactions. J: Are absolutely justified. I have been involved with music for a long time and even have my own band, Lava. The industrywallahs go through ups and downs and being attached to ground reality is very crucial. Being formally trained... A: Is important but not necessary. I have been training in classical music for the last seven years along with Rabindrasangeet and Adhunik gaan. N: Does matter. I have been training in classical music for the last 12 years both in Agartala and Kolkata. J: Always helps. I am into classical music for the last four years and realise that I'm not even halfway through. Looks are... A: Very important. There are three singing competitions happening simultaneously on three channels and obviously TRPs do matter. We surely need to look more presentable, after all it's an audio-visual programme. N: Something that does make a difference. For all the plain Janes, there's a massive make-over awaiting them. J: Of importance, just to a certain extent. Ultimately, your talent and luck will pull you through. The spirit of competition... A: Lasts till as long as I am on stage. I try and maintain good relations with everyone. N: Is all on the sets but at the end of the day, we are close friends. Every time someone gets eliminated, it's a feeling of gloom that surrounds us. J: Is of course there but we get along very well with each other.
